Training

The goal of all of us here at The Community Voice Channel (CVC) is to provide you with all of the tools you will need to create unique and compelling program content that is relevant to you and your community members. Our staff conducts regular workshops intended to train you thoroughly in the use of our facilities, equipment, and software so that you can produce all types of on-air programming including live telecasts.

 

Workshops are offered in the two key areas of production: Field Production and Studio Production. In order for you to become a producer at CVC you must attend and complete at least one of these workshops. Once you accomplish this you may also work as a CVC volunteer, assisting others with their projects.

 

Field Production: Basic On-Camera Production. Hands-on instruction on CVC's Cannon GL2 camcorders. For general field productions and for news-type productions. This workshop includes instruction on tripod use, interview techniques, external microphones, and audio cables. This workshop is conducted over the course of three evenings with each session running from 6PM-8PM. Attendance at all three sessions is required in order to successfully complete this workshop. the next Field Production Workshop will be held in September, and will cover the following dates:

Wednesday 9/8 , Tuesday, 9/15, Tuesday, 9/22 , from 6PM-8PM each night.

 

Studio Production: Learn the technical and conceptual skills to produce a studio program with a crew. Hands-on instruction on cameras, tripods, switcher, audio board, microphones, graphics, video playback, and recording. This workshop is conducted over the course of four evenings with each session running from 6PM-8PM. Attendance at all four session is required in order to successfully complete the workshop. The next Studio Production Workshop will be held in October and will cover the following dates:

Tuesday, 10/5, Tuesday, 10/12 , Tuesday, 10/19, Tuesday, 10/26, from 6PM-8PM each night.

 

Lighting Worshop, CVC has a state-of-the-art Lowel Field Production LIghting Kit which can be used to create a broad range of dramatic lighting effects for all types of programming both in the studio and in the field. Before using this new tool, producers will be required to take a 2 hour workshop reviewing the setup of the lighting kit and how it can enchance your production. This workshop is conducted every 2 months, Pre-Requisite for this class is completion of our Field Workshop.

 

 

Advance Multi-Cam Field Production, CVC now offers multi-camera field production equipment called Tricaster. The class covers set up, and operations of the software as well as instruction on how to direct your crew before, during, and after the production. Multi-Camera Field Production is an advance workshop with two, two hour sessions offered every 3 months. Pre-Requisite for this class is completion of our Field & Studio Workshops.

 

Video Editing: CVC also offers training on the principles and techniques of video editing using both Apple iMovie and Apple Final Cut Pro. CVC's training is open to both adults and children ages 11 and up. Please call our offices at 860-645-1454 to set up a training session with one of our staff members. This workshop is taught one on one or in small groups of two or three.

Our workshops satisfy the requirements for both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts communication badges. CVC can also create customized presentations for your schools and community groups
